Explanation
Embroidery designs require extra space around the design so the fabric can be secured properly in the hoop. Adding margin ensures that the design does not sit too close to the hoop edges.
Most embroiderers add 1–2 inches of extra space on each side of the design.
Example math
If an embroidery design measures 6 × 8 inches and you add 1 inch of margin on each side:
6 + (1×2) = 8
8 + (1×2) = 10
So the recommended hoop size would be approximately 8 × 10 inches.
