This cross stitch thread length calculator estimates how much embroidery thread is needed for a cross stitch project based on the total stitch count and an estimated thread length per stitch.
How to use calculator
Enter the total stitch count for the design and the estimated amount of thread used per stitch. The calculator estimates the total thread length required to complete the design.
Explanation
Each cross stitch uses a small amount of embroidery floss. By estimating the thread used per stitch, stitchers can approximate the total thread required for an entire design.
While the exact amount varies depending on fabric count and number of strands, many stitchers estimate around 0.5 inches of thread per stitch.
Example math
If a design contains 20,000 stitches and each stitch uses 0.5 inches of thread:
20000 × 0.5 = 10000 inches
The project would require approximately 10,000 inches of thread.
