This cross stitch fabric margin calculator helps determine how much fabric is needed for a cross stitch project when extra margin is added for framing or finishing.
How to use calculator
Enter the finished design width and height in inches, then enter the amount of extra margin you want on each side. The calculator will estimate the total fabric size required.
Explanation
Cross stitch projects require extra fabric around the design so the piece can be framed, mounted, or finished properly. Many stitchers add between 2 and 3 inches of extra fabric on each side.
This calculator adds the extra margin to both sides of the design.
Example math
If the finished design is 14.29 × 10.71 inches and the margin is 3 inches:
14.29 + (3×2) = 20.29
10.71 + (3×2) = 16.71
The recommended fabric size would be approximately 20.29 × 16.71 inches.
